Fort’s Chapel

According to Sketches of  Greensville County, Fort’s Chapel was built to be used by traveling preachers, daily devotions of the family, and for religious services of the slaves.

The chapel was the desire of Elizabeth Harris Coleman Fort, wife of Lewis Fort. Mr. Fort is said to have been a rather worldly man whose interests were in social life and horse racing. He had a race track on the plantation.

We have no details about the location of the chapel other than that it was in the grove of trees that surrounded the house.
